St John's Church

St John’s Church (St. John the Divine, to use our full name) will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2010. Throughout that time its members have strived to serve God faithfully in the area around the church. We were established as a mission church and aim to present God’s amazing love to those around us.

Our Sunday services

Mornings (10.30am):

1st Sunday of the month – All age

2nd Sunday – Holy Communion

3rd, 4th and 5th – Morning Worship

Afternoons/Evenings:

1st, 2nd & 5th Sundays – Evening Worship (6.30pm)

3rd Sunday – Tea time church (3.30pm)

4th Sunday – Holy Communion (6.30pm)

Our services usually last around an hour and the style varies according to the type of service (e.g. All-Age service, Holy Communion) but almost all consist of sung worship, prayer and a talk. The words to the songs will appear on the screen. For children there is:

• Crèche (nursery children and below)
• God Squad (Reception to Y6)
• Pathfinders (Y7 to Y10)

Children going to these groups leave at an announced point during the service.

These groups do not meet when there is an All-age service (1st Sunday of the month) but the Crèche room is still available.

CYFA:  CYFA a group for 14 – 18 year olds meets on Sunday evening 8 - 10pm

Midweek activities

Small groups:  Small groups give us a chance to discuss and learn more about Jesus and the Christian way of life. Studying the Just People course this term.

Tots in Tow:  “Tots” an extremely popular group for pre-school children and their carers. Monday and Wednesday morning (10.00 – 11.45am) in the Church Centre.

Street Café:  “Street Café” takes place on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Wednesday Fellowship:   This group meets every Wednesday in the Church lounge from 2-3.30pm.

Brownies and Guides:   Brownie group meets on Thursdays in the Hall from 6.30-8pm. Guides meet in the Hall on Wednesdays from 7-8.30pm.

Keep Fit:   Keep Fit group meet in the Church Hall each Monday at 7pm.
